On February 25, a protest is scheduled in front of the regional commands of the National Gendarmerie, including the one in Mercedes, located at avenues 2 and 29. Discontent within the institution has increased in recent months due to low salaries, the lack of supplements in certain provinces, and the growing difficulty to cover basic expenses.
A salary receipt corresponding to January 2025 shows that a non-commissioned officer received a gross amount of $978,665.59, but after deductions of $195,890.07, the net amount to be received was $782,775.52. However, rental costs in Rosario already reach $506,739.01, including administrative expenses and taxes.
Additionally, possible sanctions have been warned for those participating in the protest, recalling reprisals suffered in previous mobilizations, such as those in 2012. The demonstration aims to highlight the crisis faced by the officers and open a dialogue with authorities to find urgent solutions.
Concerns have also been raised about the impact of long working hours and the constant risk in performing their duties. In light of this situation, the protesters are seeking the support of other security forces and the community. "Many gendarmes are leaving the force because they cannot sustain themselves with their income," said organizers of the march.
Family members and non-commissioned officers of the National Gendarmerie are mobilizing to demand better salaries and decent working conditions. More than 60% of the salary can be allocated solely to cover housing costs, not considering other expenses such as food, health, and education.
